On July 25th, from 11 a.m. to noon, the principal investigators of the 2021 Tampa tree canopy survey will be interviewed by the hosts of the weekly "Sustainable Living" show on WMNF 88.5FM radio. The "City of Tampa 2021 Tree Canopy and Urban Forest Analysis" will be released sometime in late summer or early fall. A city ordinance requires that a tree canopy study be performed every five years. In coordination with the 2011 study, the City adopted an Urban Forest Management Plan designed to guide future development and management of trees and the urban forest. The Management Plan also established performance criteria by which to evaluate tree canopy and urban forest management in the City. The 2016 Study determined that the City's performance was moderate in most vegetation resource categories (e.g., wind resistance of trees), good in species diversity and optimal in tree canopy cover (i.e., no net loss).
